Up

Many years ago (1978) a co-worker saw an advertisement for a Clown Club looking for recruits. Knowing I was a subtle but shy practical joker she suggested I let my inner child come out to play. The group was the Michigan Bell Clowns Galore and under the guidance of Barry DeChant, my alter ego began to grow and exhibit a life of her own.

My early clowning years enjoyed entertaining others but I was still very shy to leave my residence in my new persona. Eventually, I learned, practical Merilyn had to stay home but Pockettes (the Joker and Funster) could go anywhere!

I truly enjoyed the growth of my alter ego in a safe and positive environment. My fellow Joeys were very kind in their suggestions and generous with sharing information and encouraging personal growth. (Alleys are a wonderful source of support)

I have enjoyed clowning since then and was blessed to share my clowning activities with my daughter, who began clowning at the age of 4 years old, and was a great clowning partner for almost 15 years. We loved traveling to and from conventions and used the commute time to develop our patter, bits and skits. My grandson has attended clown conventions and has expressed an interest in magic. Junior Joey programs
are a great source for nurturing their interests.

Clowning is my life! There are many aspects to clowning. Skills are important but they mean nothing without heart, attitude and the ability to learn to laugh at life and meet its challenges with a positive attitude. Clowns are ambassadors of joy!

You recently voted me as your Midwest Regional Representative. Thank you! I am here to serve and am very interested in your opinion and what direction you would like to see the organization take in order to service your clown needs.

Bump a nose and share your smile!
Merilyn
